I love Ikat

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ikat, or Ikkat, is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye on either thewarp or weft fibres prior to dyeing. The word ikat derives from the Indonesian word mengikat 'to tie'.

Ok...I wish I designed this but sadly enough I did not, needless to say I am in love with everything about this photo.

Weekend Makeover

Home Away from Home

Home Away from Home was my inspiration for the guest bedroom in my new home. I wanted to create a comfortable, peaceful place for friends and family.
I have been in my new home for almost one year now and have been decorating room by room. The guest room was basically a weekend makeover, thanks to Home Goods, Target, and donations from my generous parents. The room itself is small and I have not had the chance to paint the walls, but I can deal with the purple for now.
I worked with what I had...using texture and color...and this is the result.

There is wall to wall carpeting...it's tan so it's at least workable.

I think a bed always looks more inviting when layered with pillows and blankets.

I had a slight dilemma on what I was going to use for side tables or if I was going to use any at all. I was at Target strictly to buy laundry detergent (I always need to focus on the task at hand when I go there), but of course I wandered off into the home section and these ottomans just jumped out of nowhere. The ottomans ended up being the perfect addition to the room and I love that they are not your traditional side tables.
Of course I left the store without my laundry detergent.

Accents: I took a gold frame that was lying around and framed a piece of leftover fabric and placed it on the ottoman for a sturdy surface for a lamp. I stacked coffee table books to support the lamp on the other ottoman.

LOVE texture

Fresh flowers are always a nice addition to a room.

In a nutshell this is what a weekend can do. If you are tired of a room in your house and do not have the time to paint, try simple things like updating your bed linens, add decorative pillows, purchase new lamps or even lamp shades, or add a new rug. So many possibilities...be creative.

More changes are to come for the guest bedroom. I will keep you posted!!
